House to Home: Our Home Transformation

Seth and I bought our home back in April of 2017, we've almost been homeowners for two whole years. When we bought our house, it was basically a blank canvas. The walls were neutral and so were the floors. We had a lot of hopes and dreams for our house, some of them have become a reality, others are still in the making. We are still working to make this house the best home it can be - it's been good to us so far.

We did have some things occur that we did not expect in the first two years. It started last year a few days before Christmas... our heat went out. We had a 1960's boiler in our home that decided to give up on us. Seth and I made the decision to not replace out boiler but instead get a furnace. We already had duct work from our air conditioner so it just took a little more work but we thought it would be best. When the furnace was added, we had to add a new air conditioning system that worked with the new furnace. While the team was doing all of this work, they discovered our gas line was corroding and HAD to be replaced... so that was replaced as well. A few months after our heat, air, and gas line were replaced, our hot water heater gave up and so it was replaced. (Thankfully, at this point we become regular customers with the company we chose to make all of these repairs.) And then this fall, our water was not draining so we called our favorite company and they told us our clay sewer pipe under our house was cracking and needed to be replaced. From April 2017 to now, we have invested about $30,000 in our house in repairs. But all of these repairs were necessary and were done with a great, reliable company that helps us as much as possible.

Some other things Seth and I have done to our since purchasing was we have painted (almost) every room in our house and we fenced in our back yard (quarter of an acre) last summer. We added shutters to the exterior, repainted the front door, replaced our mailbox, and put a fire pit in our backyard last summer. These changes may not sound like a lot, but they have made a world of a difference to us (especially the fence now that we have two dogs).

We have a lot of changes that we have yet to make. We want to remodel our kitchen, possibly our bathroom, we're planning our moving our room to our current guest room so we will repaint and maybe shiplap a wall, remodel our laundry room, and some cosmetic changes to the exterior of our house as well.

Here's some of the progress we have made to transform the house we bought into our home.

These are pictures of our house before we moved in:

And here are pictures with the changes we have made:

Here's some additional pictures of our home. Like I said, we still have some work to do but we could not love our home any more.
